Nine Selected for Carroll EMC’s Lineman School Scholarship

Apr 6, 2026

Carroll EMC is supporting the next generation of lineworkers by awarding nine students with the Lineman School Scholarship, a program that provides financial assistance and mentorship as recipients complete training and prepare to enter the workforce. Those selected this year are Chance Cole, Rylan Daniell, Luke Edwards, Connor Foster, Eli Harris, C.J. Hudgens, Ryan Ives, Dallas McGee and River White.

Applicants were evaluated through a competitive selection process that began with an application and an essay explaining their interest in becoming a lineman. Qualified candidates also participated in interviews with a panel made up of current and retired linemen from electric cooperatives across the region.

“I had the pleasure of serving on the panel this year and meeting the young men who are serious about this career path,” said Mike Benton, Manager of Safety and Training at Georgia EMC. “There’s a growing need for lineworkers, and Carroll EMC is doing a great thing by helping students enter the industry with strong training and support.”

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must live in a home served by Carroll EMC or be an employee, employee’s child or employee’s grandchild. Applicants must also be a graduating senior in good standing or have earned a high school diploma or GED, maintain a safe driving record and be drug-free.

Lineworkers play a critical role in ensuring reliable electric service for homes and businesses, often working in challenging conditions to keep the lights on. Through the Lineman School Scholarship, Carroll EMC aims to help prepare individuals who are committed to meeting those responsibilities.

“It’s not just about choosing a career but choosing a lifestyle and a purpose,” wrote Daniell, a scholarship recipient. “I want to be a lineman because I want to do work that matters. I want a challenge, not something easy.”

Each recipient receives a $5,000 scholarship which may be used toward tuition and to purchase required tools and equipment. In addition to financial assistance, recipients are paired with an experienced mentor who provides guidance as they move through training and into the workforce.
