Local High Schools Presented with Sportsmanship Award from Carroll EMC

Jan 17, 2023

Carroll EMC proudly spotlights Central High School and Haralson County High School with the 2021-2022 Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship awards.

Electric cooperatives across the state understand the importance of shaping and recognizing the leaders of tomorrow, and for that reason have presented the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship award annually to schools in each of the 64 regions from the eight classifications since 2006. Two schools in Carroll EMC’s service territory were recognized by the program—Central High School representing region seven, class AAAA and Haralson County High School representing region five, class AA.

To be considered for the award, all students, athletes, coaches, spectators and other individuals associated with high school activities must illustrate outstanding respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility before, during and after athletic events. Schools like Central High and Haralson County High have shown exemplary sportsmanship across all the areas listed. Representatives of Carroll EMC presented each school with their awards at a sporting event of their choice.

“This award isn’t just a reflection of the student body but a reflection of the surrounding community,” said Ryan Sammon, Community Relations Specialist for Carroll EMC. “If we continue to plant those seeds and encourage these behaviors, imagine what the West Georgia area will reap in the years to come.”

The GHSA is a voluntary, non-profit organization comprised of more than 470 public and private high schools that strives to promote good sportsmanship, participant safety, fair play and a cooperative spirit among its member schools. The GHSA administers regulations for region and state competition in 18 sports and three activities. For more information, visit www.ghsa.net.
