Officials from Carroll Electric Membership Cooperative (EMC), Coweta-Fayette EMC and Diverse Power joined Oglethorpe Power Corporation in presenting its 2021 ad valorem tax payment of more than $2.2 million to the Heard County Tax Commissioner’s office.
The tax payment represents Oglethorpe Power’s 30 percent ownership in the Hal B. Wansley coal-fired plant and 100 percent ownership in the Hawk Road and Chattahoochee natural gas-powered energy facilities, all in Heard County. It estimates it will pay more than $55 million in 2021 ad valorem taxes for power generation facilities that it owns or co-owns on behalf of its Member EMCs throughout the state.
Oglethorpe Power is a wholesale electric power cooperative owned by and serving 38 electric membership corporations in Georgia, including Carroll EMC.
