Samantha Golden, Payroll Specialist for Carroll EMC, recently earned her Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC) from the American Payroll Association (APA).
The FPC is open to any professional wanting to demonstrate their payroll competency. To complete the certification, candidates must submit an application outlining professional and educational experiences in payroll. The APA must approve the application before candidates can register for the three hour, 150 question proctored exam.
To prepare for the exam, Golden completed a twelve-week, self-paced study course that covered material like payroll laws and regulations, paycheck calculations, compliance, processes, administration, audits, accounting and employee benefits. She must earn a minimum of 60 qualified and approved recertification credit hours every three years to maintain her FPC.
“Earning this certification was all about educating myself,” said Golden. “There were things I learned that we don’t use that we could possibly use in the future. The payroll world is constantly changing, so with the continuing education requirements to keep my certification, I will always be learning and growing.”
In the future, she plans to become a Certified Payroll Professional.
