Cooperative Solar

Harnessing the power of the sun together
Are you considering “going solar” but don’t want the high costs and complications associated with rooftop solar panels? Carroll EMC’s new Cooperative Solar program allows you to benefit from solar energy without the risk of ownership and maintenance. You will receive your share of the sun without the hassle!

Through Carroll EMC’s Cooperative Solar program, residential Members can invest in a portion of our utility-scale solar projects. You’ll then receive credits on your monthly power bill based on solar energy production.
With Cooperative Solar, the blocks of energy you choose to purchase are generated at off-site solar facilities co-owned by participating Georgia EMCs through Green Power EMC.
You can purchase solar energy blocks from Carroll EMC at a nominal, monthly rate. The monthly output from each share varies due to the position of the sun, time of year and number of cloudy days. Therefore, consumers receive different amounts of solar energy each month based on the available sunlight and performance of the solar facility.
The kilowatt-hours produced by your solar energy block in each calendar month will offset that same number of kilowatt-hours on your bill.
Solar energy blocks at 1kW are $20 each per month. Members are able to purchase up to 3 blocks. Additional blocks may be purchased after consultation.
If fewer kilowatt-hours are used during the billing period than the amounts generated by the solar energy block(s), a credit will be given for the excess energy.
The Cooperative Solar program has many advantages:
- Affordable
- Homeownership is not required
- Freedom from long-term contracts
- More cost-effective than owning or leasing a rooftop solar system
- Financing is not necessary
- Shade or orientation to sun is not a factor
- Nothing attached to your roof
- Maintenance-free
- Neighborhood covenants do not affect access
Residential Members of Carroll EMC who are monthly billed are eligible to participate.
