Walter Harrison Scholarship

The Walter Harrison scholarship is named in honor of a leader in the state and national electric cooperative movements. The Harrison Trust awards $1,000 scholarships statewide to undergraduate students enrolled in or accepted by a Georgia college, university or technical school.

Carroll EMC selects one semifinalist from its service area to compete at the state level. Judges select winners for the Walter Harrison Scholarship each year based on financial need and academic ability.

The scholarship can be used at any accredited two-or four-year university, college or vocational-technical institute in Georgia. Applicants must reside in the household of a Carroll EMC member or employee. Scholarships can be awarded to high school seniors and undergraduate students of any age.

Please have the following documents and information ready before starting an online application:

• College acceptance letter
• Two-page autobiographical sketch
• Academic transcript
• S.A.T. and/or A.C.T. score(s)
• Two letters of recommendation
• List of school and community involvement
• List of honors and recognition

Lineman School Scholarship

Carroll EMC offers the Lineman School Scholarship to aspiring electrical line workers. Individuals must meet the following requirements in order to apply:

• Graduating senior in good standing, high school graduate or GED equivalent
• Should be a Carroll EMC Member, Member’s child living in a home served by Carroll EMC, employee, employee’s child or grandchild
• Drug-free
• Safe driving record
• To be considered for the scholarship, individuals must submit a completed online application before the deadline and be available for a personal interview with a scholarship selection team.

If selected as a recipient, the scholarship award check will be payable to the chosen lineman school and should be used for tuition, textbooks and other related fees. Funds will be available up to 24 months after award date.

Foundation Scholarship

The Foundation Scholarship is funded by Member participation in the cooperative’s Operation Round Up Program®. Operation Round Up® lets Carroll EMC Members volunteer to have their electric bills rounded up to the next highest whole dollar, with the extra change dedicated to charitable causes. The scholarship is worth $1,000.

School counselors can nominate a student for each of the following:

• Graduating senior living in a home served by Carroll EMC with a 3.0 or above GPA planning to attend a traditional four-year school
• Graduating senior living in a home served by Carroll EMC with a 3.0 or above GPA planning to attend a two-year school, trade school, or program

Students do not have to attend a college, school or program in the state of Georgia. Scholarships can be applied to both in-state and out-of-state schools.

Extending Hope Scholarship

The Extending Hope Scholarship is funded by retired Capital Credits. As a not-for-profit electric cooperative, Carroll EMC returns excess operating revenue back to its Members in the form of Capital Credits. Those that are not claimed are “retired” to the Carroll EMC Foundation for charitable causes. The scholarship is worth $1,000.

School counselors can nominate a student for each of the following:

• Graduating senior living in a home served by Carroll EMC with a 2.5-2.9 GPA planning to attend a traditional four-year school
• Graduating senior living in a home served by Carroll EMC with a 2.5-2.9 GPA planning to attend a two-year school, trade school, or program

Students do not have to attend a college, school or program in the state of Georgia. Scholarships can be applied to both in-state and out-of-state schools.

Lerlie & Millard Copeland Scholarship

The Lerlie and Millard Copeland Scholarship to attend the University of West Georgia is funded by the family of well-known, longtime Carroll EMC board member Millard Copeland. The memorial scholarship is awarded to a child or legal ward of a Carroll EMC Member or employee.

Selection is based first on financial need. Academic performance and promise are also major determining factors. Preference is given to an entering freshman. The recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student at UWG.
